Services Held Thursday For Ruben A. Oats

Funeral services for Ruben A. Oats, 67, former resident of Fairfield, were held Thursday at Columbus Junction. Masonic rites were also held in Columbus Junction cemetery.

Oats died Saturday at Holy Cross hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He and his wife moved to Florida in 1960 after his retirement at the Fairfield Engineering and Manufacturing Co.

Oats was born at Cotter, Iowa, Sept. 7, 1895, the son of Ira and Gertrude Smylie Oats. He was married to Lucille Dempsey Sept. 7, 1919.

He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Evangelical Church of the Redeemer at St. Louis, MO. He was also a past master of Magnolia Masonic lodge at St. Louis.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs. Benn Mann, Charlotte, N.C., and Jack E. Oats, Naperville, Ill. Three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Chester Ogier, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Roy Huber, Columbus Junction, also survive.
