Maurine Schmeiser

Maurine Jarvis Schmeiser, 87, of Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Wapello, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City.

Her funeral was held on Saturday, November 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Wapello. Visitation was held at the church from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were to be made in Maurine’s memory to the United Methodist Church in Wapello or Mercy Iowa City Hospice.

Maurine was born August 16, 1924, in Morning Sun, Iowa, the daughter of Esther Kremer Jarvis and Glen Bryan Jarvis. After graduating from Morning Sun High School she attended and graduated from the American Institute of Business (AIB). After graduation, Maurine worked in Burlington and later served as secretary to the principal at Wapello High School from 1962 – 1976.

On September 30, 1945, Maurine married Maurice Schmeiser and they were happily married for 62 years. Throughout their married life, Maurice and Maurine farmed land that had been in the family for over a century.

Maurine devoted her life to raising her three sons and helping others. She was a member of several philanthropic organizations including T.T.T. and P.E.O.; was a 65-year member of the United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women in Wapello; and was actively engaged in school events and activities. She took great pleasure in helping others – whether they were family, friends, neighbors, or others in need. She was always there with a helping hand and a deeply caring heart. Throughout her life she enjoyed visiting with friends, playing all kinds of games, especially cards; and compiling scrapbooks chronicling her family’s activities and accomplishments. She and her husband thoroughly enjoyed their many trips throughout the US as well as travels to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, and Europe.

Maurine took great joy in meeting people and getting to know them. Selfless in her own life, she took great interest and care in the lives of others. She treasured the many personal friendships she made and kept throughout her lifetime. She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to being with them.

Her family includes her three sons, Bruce Schmeiser and his wife, Donna of West Lafayette, Indiana, Russ Schmeiser and his wife Cyndie of Iowa City and Craig Schmeiser and his wife Nancy of Cedar Falls; along with six grandchildren, Bryan Schmeiser and his wife, Tara, Michael Schmeiser and his wife, Sue, Allyson Schmeiser, Peter Schmeiser, Sara Schroeder and her husband Curt, and Steven Schmeiser and his wife Kate. Maurine was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Maia, Cale and Luke.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jack, and her husband Maurice.

Arrangements were coordinated through Dudgeon McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

I am not related and have no further information.
