Edward Lee Reddick

Edward Lee Reddick, 85, of Chattanooga, Tenn. lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Monday, October 17, 2011. He was surrounded by loved ones at his home.

Ed was born on May 10, 1926 in Iowa City, Iowa. He left the Wapello, Iowa area in June, 1944 to serve in the Air Force during World War II as a lower ball gunner in a B17. He was the great-grandson of William Henry Harrison Reddick, member of Andrew’s Raiders and one of the first men awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Following discharge in 1946, Ed settled in Nebraska, married Margene Weaver and became father to seven children, of which one son, Kip Allen Reddick, preceded him in death.

During his 85 years on this earth, he instilled truth and goodness in his children and touched many lives as a foster parent and through his involvement in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Virginia King and Edward were united in marriage on December 29, 1977 in Chattanooga, TN. With this loving union, a daughter, Karen McCutcheon Paige and son, Lloyd McCutcheon were added to his family. Ed provided for his family be being a salesman extraordinaire. Ed and Virginia moved to Florida where he worked with his son, Gaylen, in the church furniture business. After retiring, they moved back to Tennessee where he enjoyed his role as Conductor for the Chattanooga Choo Choo Trolley. Ed was known for his jokes, stories, and anecdotes about the fun things in life. He loved his garden, fishing, and family gatherings. His family enjoyed his pancakes and homemade ice cream. Eddie Lee was God’s gift to many, the strong foundation to a loving family, and a caring and devoted husband.

His two sisters, Idabel Walker and Clemma Isenburg preceded Edward in death while his brother, Virgil Wheeler, lives to mourn his passing.

Survivors of this family include his wife, Virginia; children, Charleen and Steve Glidden, Gaylen Reddick, Deanna Dukes, Valda and Rod Opp, Tony and Fran Reddick, Lyndon Reddick, Karen Paige, Lloyd and Beth McCutcheon, 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011, in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Steve Glidden officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Johnny Sexton, David Hohnson, Julian Ingram, Tommy Knowles, David Calloway and Jim Dobbelaire will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
