Martha Marie Tomson – Morning Sun News-Herald, Thursday, March 21, 2013 accompanied by a photo.

Martha Marie Tomson, age 87, of Morning Sun, died Monday afternoon, March 18, 2013, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield. The daughter of Ellsworth F. and Gladys Hartman Kelley, she was born on July 12, 1925 in Kalona. She married Kelly Eugene Tomson on December 14, 1945 in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1998.

Martha graduated from Kalona High School in 1943.

After raising her family she received her LPN training in 1971 and worked for many years at the Morning Sun Manor and Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.

She attended the Yarmouth Baptist Church.

Martha was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting afghans and traveling.

Her family includes two daughters, Charlotte & John Peck of Fairfield and Betty & Terry Oosthoek of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sons, Douglas & Linda Tomson of Salem, James Tomson of Hillsboro and William & Jill Tomson of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law, Carol Tomson of Junction City, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kelly; a son, Kenneth; two brothers, Harold and Darold Kelley; and two sisters, Kathleen Harvey and Alverta Cramer.

The funeral service for Martha Tomson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Hagele and Honts funeral Home in Morning Sun. John Tolander and will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun.

The visitation with the family meeting friends will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Morning Sun community Ambulance Service and the Yarmouth Baptist Church.
