Robert H. Evans – Morning Sun News-Herald, Thursday, February 7, 2013

Robert H. Evans, 85, of Morning Sun, died Friday morning, February 1, 2013, at the Morning Sun Care Center. The son of Thomas Merritt and Emma Agnes Martin Evans, he was born on September 24, 1927 in Burlington. He married Frances Ruth Ellis on June 5, 1948 in Burlington. She preceded him in death in August of 1968.

Robert attended school in Yarmouth and graduated from Burlington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy at the conclusion of World War II and through the Korean Conflict. He worked and retired from US Gypsum.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun, along with the Hays Scott Post 1112 American Legion and the Morning Sun Lions. He had served on the Morning Sun City Council and was honored as the Citizen of the Year in Morning Sun.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing golf, and the special times with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca ‘Becky’ and Charles Powers of Oakville and Donna Evans-Hand of Morning Sun; two grandchildren, Scott Powers and Michelle and Mike Sharp; six great-grandchildren, Tessa, Kia, Brendon, Reina, Michael and Jordyn; two sisters, Janet Severin of Nevada, Iowa and Kathryn Wyss of Mediapolis; and one brother, Kenneth Evans of Yreka, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances.

The funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun with the Rev. Sue-Ellen Serman officiating. Burial was followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, with military rites by the Hays Scott Post 112 American Legion.

Visitation was from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun, where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund was established.
