Daniel D. “Dan” Sorrell, age 51, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Washington County Hospital following a year long battle with cancer.

Celebration of life services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. The family received friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Research Center or the Courage Ride to support cancer research at the University of Iowa. Dan was born March 31, 1961, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dennis D. and Josephine I. (Miller) Sorrell. He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1979. On June 12, 2009, Dan was united in marriage to Errin Dessner in Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Following graduation, Dan began working with his father at Sorrell Glass in Washington. Dan purchased Sorrell Glass in 1999 and operated it until 2012. He owned and operated Sorrell’s Econowash and was co-owner of Unc & Neph’s in Washington, Iowa. Dan was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa. He served on the Board and was Past President of the Washington Golf and Country Club, and was a member of the Washington County I Club, the Washington Jaycees, and the Fraternity of the Eagles. Dan enjoyed riding his motorcycle and golfing. He was recently named President of the Friday Night Fiasco golf group. He enjoyed surrounding himself with family and friends and especially enjoyed his children and their many activities.

Dan is survived by his wife, Errin Sorrell of Washington, Iowa; son, Spencer Sorrell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Taylor Sorrell of Washington, Iowa; step daughter, Kirsty Robertson of Washington, Iowa; stepson Seth Townsend of Washington, Iowa; father, Dennis Sorrell and wife, Connie of Washington, Iowa; mother, Jo Havel and husband, Terry of Iowa City, Iowa; sister, Denise Cochran and husband, Keith of Lone, Tree, Iowa; sister, Micki Shanklin of Iowa City, Iowa; and sister, Alicia Hanson and husband, Curt of McKinney, Texas. He is also survived by his uncle, Dave Sorrell and wife, Nancy of Washington, Iowa; aunt, Pat Anderson and husband, John of Houston, Texas; uncle, Glen Miller of Kalona, Iowa; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Pat Dessner of Columbus Junction, Iowa as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
