Arlene/Irene L. Norenberg, 92, of Washington, recently at the McCreedy Home, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at the Washington County Hospital. Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Pastor Al Coffin officiated. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation for Arlene was held on Monday, February 11th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Arlene/Irene Louise Houseal was born January 14, 1921 on her grandparent’s farm in rural Riverside. Her parents were Paul Revere Houseal and Mary Bess Lukavsky Houseal. Arlene attended country schools in Washington County. She married Winfred Norenberg on September 24, 1938 in Washington, Iowa, and they had three children, Bonnie Jean, Judy Gay and Elraine Sue. Arlene was basically a housewife but did work some years as a cook at the University Hospital and did babysitting for young families. She lived in Ainsworth, Iowa the last 20 years or more of her life, and she was a member of the rural Pleasant Hill Christian Church.

Arlene will be dearly missed by her children, Judy Gay Prior and her husband, Larry of Columbus Junction and Elraine Sue Wagner of Washington, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Winfred in 1999; daughter, Bonnie Jean McFarland; three grandsons, two in infancy and Scott Mullin in 2012; and her siblings, Pearl Ruth, Berlen Phillip, Annabelle Lee and Benny Gale.
