LANGSTAFF, STEINHAUFFER, MORRISON, BROWN

Douglas Harriman Langstaff, age 93, of Wapello, died Saturday evening, December 10, 2011, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center. The son of Daniel Robben and Anna Marie Steinhauffer Langstaff, he was born on December 15, 1917 at Bronson, Iowa. Doug married Marion I. Morrison on June 12, 1944 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

He graduated from Bronson High School in 1937. Doug served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a farmer and had also worked several other jobs including a custodian at the Wapello Elementary School, a fuel truck driver for Parrish Oil and Farm Service, and Oakville Feed and Grain. They lived in Colorado a few years and came back to this area in 1973 a short time in Grandview and then to Oakville where he and Marion owned and operated the Family Café for a few years. They lived in Oakville until the flood of 2008.

He was of the Methodist faith. Doug enjoyed woodworking, was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard. He had played basketball in the army and had also played local softball as a young man.

His family surviving include his wife, Marion; three children; Craig and Gerrie Jo Langstaff of Houston, Texas, Anita Brown of Winfield, and Tom Langstaff of Wapello; three grandsons, Joseph Brown, Stephen Brown, and Eric Langstaff; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Langstaff. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a great-grandson.

The funeral ceremony for Douglas Langstaff will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Pam Kranzler officiating. Burial will follow at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Friends called from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family met friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Great River Hospice and the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center.
