Phila E. Dochterman

Phila Ellen Dochterman, 88, of Burlington, died at 2:22 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington.

Burn June 15, 1915, in Huron Township, Des Moines County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lewis and Inez Charbonneau Davis. She attended Huron School.

She married Harold Dawson and later married Orville Dochterman, October 2, 1976.

Phila professed her love for God at an early age and never wavered from that love. She owned and operated a nursing home in Burlington for many years, giving care with great compassion to all those whom she cared for. She volunteered most of her adult life and during this time received several Governor Volunteer Awards from the State of Iowa and several Des Moines County Human Service Volunteer Awards.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Evelyn Schulz of Mediapolis; two grandsons, Brad and Kelly Schulz and Dave Schulz, both of Mediapolis; one granddaughter, Rena and Gilbert Ybarra of Burlington; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Danny Schulz; one step-son, Jim Dochterman of Holland-Patent, N.Y.; five step-daughters, Judy Jones of LaHarpe, Ill., Susan Lemon of Sarasota, Florida, Mary Fickel and Barbara Kelley, both of Burlington and Elizabeth Walsh of Evansville, Indiana; 19 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Marshall Davis of Littleton, Colorado, Sheldon Davis of Norwich, Connecticut, Melvin Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada and Marvel Davis of Burlington; three sisters, Lily Mae Hillson of San Antonio, Texas, Iola Meacham of The Village, Florida, and Clarissa Hester of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; plus many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, her parents and three brothers.

The funeral for Mrs. Dochterman was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hass Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial followed in the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home.
