MUSCATINE, Iowa - Melvin Leroy Orr, 82, Muscatine, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Riverbend Nursing Center.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Wade Duroe will officiate. Pallbearers are his grandsons. Honorary pallbearer is his great-grandson, Matthew Orr. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1565.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercy Hospice, Iowa City.

Mr. Orr was born May 18, 1921, in Wapello, the son of Lloyd and Emma Wehmeyer Orr. He married Genevieve E. Sell Nov. 30, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1992.

He resided in Muscatine all of his life.

He worked in the Muscatine area as a welder for many years, retiring in 1988.

He served in World War II, as a Pfc. in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was in the Pacific Theatre, serving three years in New Guinea, Biac and the Guadal Canal. He was a machinist in the motor pool.

Survivors include a son, Richard Orr and wife Linda of Muscatine; a daughter, Connie Motto and husband Vincent of Blue Grass; five grandchildren, Jeffery Orr, Mitchell Orr, Scott Orr, Richard Orr Jr. and Vincent Robert Motto; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Orr and wife Dorothy and Harlan Orr and wife Karen, all of Muscatine; three sisters, Margaret Boysel of Muscatine, Jean Borgstadt of Davenport and Wanda White and husband Ed of Crawfordsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and two sisters.
