While in Aransas Pass, Texas, he was a great hunter and fisherman and built his own sailing boat. He loved the out-of-doors and all growing things, especially flowers. He enjoyed people and was a good friend and neighbor. He was always faithful to his religion and his church. In early manhooe he united with the Presbyterian church, of Pleasant Grove, Iowa, the place of his birth. He was made a ruling elder of the Presbyterian church in Breckenbridge, Texas in his Texas residence and in Morning Sun.

Before his closing years, when infirmities came upon him, Mr. Beck was an interested citizen of the various communities where he made his home. Now he has attained that home spoken of in his favorite hymn,
"o that home of the soul in my visions and dreams,
Its bright, jasper walls I can see."

Besides his wife he leaves eight daughters, Mrs. J. Milford Hays, of Morning Sun; Mrs. R.W. Davenport Washington, D.C.; Annie E. Beck, Hot Springs, Arkansas; Esther L.
