PROMINANT FATHER DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

D.E. Barrick, 79, prominent farmer of the Oakland community north of Morning Sun, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.J. Deihl near Wapello.

Mr. Barrick, who survived the death of his wife but three months, has not been in good health for some times. A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Barrick came to Iowa in 1902 and settled north of town on the farm which has since been his home.

OBITUARY

Daniel Elder Barrick was born October 5, 1866 at Newville, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.J. Diehl in Wapello, Iowa, Tuesday November 27, 1945, aged 79 years, 1 month and 22 days.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Barrick and one of a family of six children all of whom have preceded him in death; Harvey Barrick, Mrs. Bell Devore, Mrs. Susan Henderson, Samuel C. Barrick, Mervin E. Barrick, two half sisters, Mrs. Cora Holmes, deceased and Mrs. Lillie Swordes of Columbus, Ohio, and one step-brother, W.D. Stoner, deceased.

In his youth Mr. Barrack worked away from home and assisted in the care of the family. When he was about 20 years of age he came to Illinois and the following year went to California but soon returned to Illinois where he chose to settle.

He was married to Miss Mary De-Etta Smith, February 25, 1891, and to this union was born three children, Mrs. S.J. Diehl, of Wapello, Ray E. Barrick of Morning Sun and Leslie Clair who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Barrick began housekeeping on a farm near Kirkwood, Illinois and moved to Iowa in 1902 having purchased a farm six miles north of Morning Sun where they have since made their home. They have taken great pride in their farm home which has been developed to be one of the most attractive farmsteads of the community.

Mr. and Mrs. Barrick were active in both church and community life. They were faithful members and attendants of the Morning Sun Methodist Church and always helpful with the work of the Oakland Presbyterian church near their home. They will be greatly missed in the church and community.

Mrs. Barrick preceded him in death August 20, 1944. He is survived by his half sister, Mrs. Lillie Swords; one daughter, Mrs. S.J. Deihl; one son Ray E. Barrick, seven grandchildren, Mrs. Fay Deihl Chenweth, Mrs. Francis Diehl Blankenhorn, S.Sgt Irving Ray Deihl, Ph, M. 3-c Everett Barrick Deihl, Mrs. Barbara Barrick Holmquist, Cpl Daniel Maxson Barrick, Fred Samuel Barrick, and seven great, grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Dudgeon Funeral Home in Wapello at 11 am Friday, Nov 30. The services will be in charge of Rev. R. Vernon Pike of the Morning Sun Methodist Church and the Rev. O.L. Byrns of the Morning Sun Presbyterian church. Pallbearers will be Ellis Harris, Joe Nichols, Chester McConahay, Guy Wiley, Chris Johansmier and Lawrence Jack. Interment will be made in the Kirkwood, Illinois cemetery.
