Mrs. D.E. Barrick Dies Tueaday
Oakland Resident Passes Away at Mt. Pleasant

Mrs. D.E. Barrick 75, well known resident of the Oakland community passed away at the state hospital in Mt. Pleasant following an extended illness. A native of Illinois, Mrs. Barrick came to Iowa in 1902 and had lived since that time on the farm north of Morning Sun. She was a charter member of the Oakland Social Club, of the What-So-Ever Class of the Oakland Sunday School and a member of the community Red Cross, in which she took an active interest.

Mrs. Barrick is survived by her husband, one son and one daughter.

Funeral services, held Thursday of last week at the Dudgeon funeral home at Wapello, were conducted by Rev. R. Vernon Pike of the Morning Sun Methodist church assisted by Rev. D.L. Byrns of the Morning Sun Presbyterian Church. Hymns for the service were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Earl P. Smith accompanied by Mrs. Estella Christy of Wapello. Interment was made in the Kirkwood, Illinois cemetery. Pallbearers were two grandsons, Dannie and Fred Barrick, four nephews, George Smith, Donald Cannell and Dale Callahan.

Obituary

Mary DeEtta Smith, daughter of S.H. and Mary Tinkham Smith, was born December 29, 1869 near Kirkwood Illinois and pased away August 21, 1945, aged 78 years, 7 months and 22 days.

On February 25, 1891 she was united in marriage to Daniel E. Barrick. She is survived by her husband and two children, Fern, wife of S.J. Deihl of Wapello and Ray F. of Morning Sun. She also took into her home a nephew, Donald S. Cannell and cared for him for nine years. One son, Leslie Clair, and two sisters preceded her in death. She is also survived by one brother, Fred H. Smith of Kirkwood, Illinois and by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

After her marriage, she and her husband made their home on a farm near Kirkwood, Illinois until 1902 when they moved to their home near Morning Sun, Iowa.

On Feb. 25, 1941 they observed their golden wedding anniversary.

Shortly after moving to Iowa she became a member of the Morning Sun Methodist church of which church she was a member at the time of her death.
