Karen Ann ‘Kay’ Morris, age 64, of Winfield and formerly of Wapello, died Friday evening, May 6, 2011 at her home. The daughter of John Arthur and Dorothy Nugent Hartman, she was born on April 24, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kay married Paul F. Morris on November 28, 1980 in Denmark, Iowa.

She attended high school in Morristown, Tennessee and was a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington and Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa with a B.A. degree in education.

She taught at the Denmark Elementary School for 37 years, retiring in January of 2006.

Kay was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello and active in the church choir. She belonged to the Ft. Madison Education Association along with the ISEA and NEA.

She enjoyed her family, all sports especially the sports of her children and grandchildren and including being a huge Hawkeye fan. She also enjoyed the road races with her husband. She enjoyed walking, puzzles, bingo and all games, and playing the piano.

Her family includes her husband, Paul; two sons, Lance R. and Julie Huebner of Liberty, Missouri, and Todd A. and Nga Morris of Davenport; her daughter, Jacqueline K. and Jon Oelerich of Bettendorf; four stepchildren, Darren P. Morris and Kim Vaughn of Middletown, Rodney W. and Lisa Morris of Johnston, Mark R. and Leslie Morris of Danville and Carolyn E. McCreight of Georgia; five grandchildren, Isabella, Ethan, Matthew, Markus and Kristen Morris; her mother, Dorothy Hartman Kohn of Port Charlotte, Florida; a sister, Pamela J. Hartman of San Clemente, California; and a nephew, Nicholas Hartman of Canyon Creek, California.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, John Allen Hartman.

The funeral service for Karen ‘Kay’ Morris was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello with the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Cremation followed the funeral service.

Visitation was Tuesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family met with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A memorial fund was established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church Building Fund and the Great River Hospice.
