Funeral services for Alan Gary Willis, 57, of Tipton who died Monday, April 11, 2011 of an apparent heart attack, were held Friday, April 15, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with Pastor Lee Willis, Jr. officiating. There was a visitation at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. Burial was at Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Casket bearers were Joe Willis, Sean Stewart, Mal Westfall, Sr., Lee Willis, Sr., Jerry Willis, Blair Stairs. Honorary casket bearers were Tim Duggan, Todd Reinsayer, Gil Linenberger.

Alan was born May 26, 1953, the son of Larry Edward and Esther Susan Rybarczyk Willis, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated high school in Columbus Junction, Iowa. On August 5, 1972, Alan was united in marriage to Debra Louise Smith in Nashua, Iowa.

Alan loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, watching Hawkeye college basketball and football, and going to antique car shows. During his lifetime he restored a 1963 Ford Falcon convertible. On a nice day you would usually find him working outside in his garage or yard. In the late 80’s Alan served as president of the Jaycee’s and enjoyed being involved with their fireworks and haunted houses. He also volunteered as a little league coach. Alan was employed by Grain Processing Corporation for 21 years. He was the Starch Department Office Manager. In his recent position as Manager of Subway Restaurants, Alan consistently achieved "Gold" operational ranking status, which is the highest rating given to Managers. He was well respected by his associates and the entire Subway community.

Alan is loved and survived by his mother, Esther Willis of Muscatine, Iowa; wife, Debbie Willis of Tipton, Iowa; daughter, Jennifer (Sean) Stewart of Tipton, Iowa; son, Joseph (Melissa) Willis of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren, Fletcher and Livia Stewart; sisters, Karen (Malvin) Westfall of Tipton, Iowa, Diane (Blair) Stairs of Des Moines, Iowa, Gloria Matlock of Muscatine, Iowa; brothers, Lee (Barbara) Willis, Sr. of Muscatine, Iowa, and Jerry (Sue) Willis of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his father. Alan will be missed dearly. Memorials can be made in care of Alan Willis and sent to the Fry Funeral Home, PO Box 30, Tipton IA 52772.
