Paul Raymond Bell, age 80, of rural Letts, Iowa, died Monday evening, April 11, 2011, at Trinity Hospital in Muscatine. The son of Paul, Sr. and Bessie Glasgow Bell, he was born on September 16, 1930, in Washington, Iowa. He married Marcelene Cocklin.

Paul graduated from Cotter High School in 1949. He was a lifetime farmer in Louisa County. He was a Louisa County Deputy Sheriff for a number of years. He also had been a telephone lineman in earlier years.

He enjoyed the outdoors that included all the animals, both domestic and wild, especially birds. He was very artistic in painting, woodcarving, and welding, having enjoyed his shop and creating many things he also painted murals.

Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marcelene; two daughters, Traci and Jim Maxted of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Bell and Brian VanSpeybroeck of Moline, Illinois; a son, Russell Bell of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jeff Maxted, Jen DeYoe, Erik Bell, and Matt Bell; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Bell and Libby Maxted.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Bell.

Cremation will be completed.

The family met with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral home in Wapello.
A private burial will be held at the Grandview Cemetery.
