Floyd A. Rice

Floyd Arthur Rice, 70, of rural Burlington and formerly of Wapello, died Monday, December 13, 2010, at his daughter’s home where he had resided.

The son of Ralph G. and Mary Ellen Smith Rice, he was born on May 18, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa. He married Shirley Ann Winters on December 20, 1962 in Biggsville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2005.

Floyd graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1959. He served in the US Navy from August 1, 1959 to August 1, 1963. He worked as a rock crusher operator for Linwood Stone of Buffalo, Iowa. He was a member of the Operators Union, Local 150.

His family includes two daughters, Shelly and Kenny Row of rural Burlington and Lisa and Chester Garnsey of Morning Sun; a son, Jeff and Stacy Rice of Menominee, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Ralph Rice of Winfield, Don Rice of Burlington, and Bill Rice of Morning Sun; and two sisters, Lila Brown of Yarmouth and Minnie Mae Still of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; a sister, Mary Griffin; and two nephews, Paul and Duane.

He will be cremated and a memorial service will be held.
