Dorothy E. Johnston Lott

Mrs. Dorothy E. Johnston Lott, 81, of Burlington and formerly of West Burlington died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 1 5, 2010 at Great River Medical Center – Klein Center.

Born November 28, 1929 at St. Francis Hospital in Burlingto0n, she was the daughter of Edward B. and Marie A. Liederman Kobs. She married Lyle Johnston and was later divorced. On May 28, 1969 she married John F. Lott in Mo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1993.

Mrs. Lott attended a rural New London one room school until 8th grade and graduated from New London High School. She worked in production at Silas Mason and Champion Spark Plug where she was one of the first six women hired at their local facility. She also helped her husband at Lott’s Auto Sales and Repair where she was a bookkeeper and also sold cars.

Mrs. Lott was a member of St. John and Paul’s Catholic Church and a past member of the women’s auxiliaries of Eagles and Moose. She loved gardening, antiquing and collectables.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca D. (Vearl) Garland of Farmer City, Illinois and Julia Diane Johnston of West Burlington; four step sons, Phillip A. Lott of Mediapolis and Tracy Lott, Daryl Lott and Brett Lott all of Wapello; one step daughter, VBickie (Dana) Teel of California; three brothers, Edward J. Kobs of Burlington, Donald “Butch” Kobs of Danville and James A. (Mary Lee) Kobs of Mount Pleasant; two sisters, Ruth M. Sullivan of Fallon, Nevada and Mary D. O’Neill of Marion; two grandchildren, Chandra Williams of Champaign, Illinois and Brian Garland of Farmer City, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Lucas Williams and Natalie Garland; four step-grandchildren, Daniel L. Lott of Ft. Madison, Jennifer L. Luna of Riverside, Daniel Bonnichsen of Burlington and Deborah Edwards of California; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, John Lott; son, Dennis Johnston; parents; and brother, Robert J. Kobs preceded her in death.

Visitation with family was from noon until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 18th in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Lott followed at 1:00 p.m. The Rev Bruce DeRammelaere officiated. Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, West Burlington.

A memorial was established for Great River Hospice.
