Allen D. Molander, age 76, of rural Crawfordsville, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at his home after a three-year battle with Lou Gerigs disease. He was born September 20, 1932 just north of Mt. Pleasant. He was a graduate of the Olds High School. He volunteered for the US Army and served for two years in Germany. In 1954 he married Joyce Martin and the couple lived near Mt. Union for two years before moving to their Crawfordsville farm. He farmed his adult life, as well as working for L.J. Roth for ten years. He was an avid hunter, and opened his own Firearms and Archery business on his farm in 1983, selling the business when his health began to decline. He was a member of the Olds United Church of Christ, where he was a trustee and held other various offices.

Survivors include: his wife, of Crawfordsville; two daughters; Debra Molander of Burlington; Sharon Phillips and husband, Tony of Crawfordsville; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded.

A memorial service was held Friday, January 23, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Olds United Church of Christ, with Elaine Vass and Jim Luder officiating.

Hospice of Central Iowa has been with Allen for 15 months, and the family appreciates their services above and beyond words. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.
