Ethel Rose Fisher Benhart went to her rest, Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Joan’s Hospice House in Bonita Springs, Florida.

She was born in a log cabin in Seneca Township, Crawford County, Wisconsin, to Arthur J. and Minnie P. (Michael) Fisher on Sunday, February 27, 1916. She married Charles H. Benhart, August 27, 1934, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. “Butch” as Charles was known, preceded her in death, April 20, 1967.

Ethel and Butch moved from Wisconsin to Burlington, Iowa, in 1941. Her working career included IAAP, Montgomery Ward, and IRC. She moved to Florida in 2000 and lived the last few years there with her son, Marvin.

Her family was among the pioneers of southwest Wisconsin after having pioneered in Pennsylvania prior to that. She was a former member of the Royal Neighbors, Moose, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Eastman, Wisconsin. She had a multitude of friends in southwest Wisconsin, Burlington, Iowa area, and Florida with whom she shared her life.

Ethel is survived by three children: Bette L. (Jerry) Griffin of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Marvin D. Benhart of Ft. Myers, Florida, (Carolyn of Delavan, Illinois), and Wayne C. (Lois) Benhart of Estero, Florida; eight grandchildren: J. David (Debra) Griffin, Daniel E. (Angelina) Griffin, and Barbara P. (Robert) Greer of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Douglas D. (Jenny) Griffin of Lone Tree, Iowa, Shannon M. Benhart of Delavan, Illinois, Charles D. (Melodie) Benhart of Bedford, Indiana, Charles H. Benhart II of Burlington, Iowa, and Wayne C. (Jessica) Benhart of Orange Park, Florida; sixteen great-grandchildren: M.W. (Mick) Morrissey of West Burlington, Iowa, Johnathan P. Griffin of BenSalem, Pennsylvania, Shane C. (Rashanda) Griffin of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Randi R. (Justin) Stanfield of Reidsville, Georgia, Cory L. Griffin of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Devon, Elizabeth and Tiernan Griffin of Lone Tree, Iowa, Sabrina M. and Brandon P. Redding of Delavan, Illinois, Charles J., Jessica R. and Alexis M. Benhart of Bedford, Indiana, Jaydon T., Alexis S. and Jaran J. Benhart of Normal, Illinois; ten step-great-grandchildren: Ember Masters, Alexander Trueblood, Joseph Sheldon, Jessica (RJ) Bohrer, Heidi and Derek Brase, Lindsay Wessels, Jonathan and Bianca Lula, and Jenny Potter; four great-great-granchildren: Mattilee J. and Raegan G. Stanfield, Dakota A. and Kyler D. Griffin (who was born on Ethel’s 92nd birthday); three step-great-great-grandchildren: Makala M. Potter, Phoenix A-S Sexton and Maverick R-J Bohrer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Lois M. Bachem and a brother, Edmund A. Fisher.

Per her wishes, Ethel was cremated. A memorial and burial will take place in Burlington, Iowa, at a later date.
