Howard H. Schweitzer, 88, of Grandview, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Davenport Lutheran Homes surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left to the Schweitzer family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Howard Henry Schweitzer was born March 23, 1922 in Bayfield, IA the son of Albert and Josephine (Vincent) Schweitzer. On January 5, 1945 Howard was united in marriage to Margaret J. Best in Burlington, IA. Howard had worked at International Harvester for over 30 years. Howard enjoyed doing word search puzzles and collected information on interesting people and events.

Howard will be dearly missed by his wife, Margaret Schweitzer; his daughters, Diana K. Brooks and her husband, James of Shell Rock, IA, June R. Thompson of Davenport, IA and Jane F. Whitmire and her husband, John of Colona, IL; nine grandchildren; Jeff, Kirk, Scott and Joe Brooks, Kevin Thompson, Sheila Meder, Robert and Steven Whitmire, and Christie Parrish; 8 step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother in infancy, brother Albert “Vincent” Schweitzer, sister, Marie Veach and two grandchildren; David and Kenneth.
