Donald N. Cocklin, age 96, of rural Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, September 12, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The son of Charles and Della Nelson Cocklin, he was born on April 11, 1914 in the family home in rural Louisa County, Iowa. He married Edith Zeahringer on October 14, 1972 in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2001.

He served in the US Army during WW II. He was a farmer and enjoyed hunting mushrooms and simply being outdoors.

He is survived by a son, Dewayne and Connie Curry, Sr. of Fruitland; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clinton Cocklin of Wapello; and a sister, Norma Cocklin of Wapello. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith; a brother, Everett; two sisters, Lila Cocklin and Kathryn Brown; a daughter, Beverly Bierman; a son, Ricky Dean Krueger; and two nieces.

The funeral ceremony for Donald Cocklin will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, officiated by Rev. Darryl Erickson. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. The family will meet friends prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the American Cancer Society.
