Irvin W. White, age 94, of Columbus Junction died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Colonial Manner in Columbus Junction following declining health.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 14th at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with Rev. Kelly Allard officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29. Visitation will begin 12:00 pm Wednesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been established to Hospice of Washington County. Irv was born on September 22, 1915 in Clinton, Missouri the son of Lon and Margaret (Suffle) White. He attended country school and later attended school in Ainsworth. Irv was united in marriage to Esther A. Patterson on January 23, 1938. He was a member of the Iowa State Guard in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He trained to be a heavy vehicles mechanic. On February 7, 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army. During World War II, he served in France and in central Rhineland in Europe. He was honorably discharged on February 10, 1964 as a T5. Irv and his wife, Esther, started farming in Washington and Louisa Counties in 1946. While their daughter was going to Columbus Community Schools he was the bus manager and a bus driver, which he really enjoyed. Irv enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the large group of hunters that gathered at Thomas’ Corner to go fox hunting.

Irv is survived by his siblings, Lillian Evans of Burlington, Iowa; Mary Mitchel of Washington, Iowa; Joan Palmer and husband, Tom of Washington, Iowa; and Frank Lukavsky and wife, Evelyn of Washington, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1974; his daughter, Judy White in 2007; and three sisters, Pauline White; Darlene Lukavsky; and Bernice Fletcher.
