Idabel Walker, 86, Wapello, died Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2003, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The daughter of George Washington and Vinnie Gwindolyn Reddick Wheeler, she was born December 8, 1917, in the Louisa County, Iowa. She married Cleatis Wilmer Walker on January 29, 1939, in Wapello. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1971.

Isabel and her husband, the Rev. C.W. Walker, were cofounders of the Independent Full Gospel Church of Fredonia, Iowa, on December 1, 1957. She served the church in many capacities, including secretary-treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and the county home, nursing home, and jail ministries. She was also active in the Vacation Bible Schools and children’s church. Her membership has continued with the church as it now continues as the Abundant Life Assembly of God.

She was a lifelong resident of the Wapello and Oakville area having attended school in Oakville.

She is survived by her son, Carl Melvin Walker of Wapello; a sister, Clemma Isenberg of Davenport; two brothers, Virgil Wheeler of Muscatine and Edward Reddick of Chattanooga, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, a son, The Rev. Gary Walker, and a sister, Vergie Mae.

Visitation was Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family met with friends in the evening.

The funeral service for Idabel Walker will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bobby Bryant officiating. Music will be provided by Jim Martin, organist, and vocalists Jim and JoDee Martin and Joyce Calhoun. A special taped selection of music by Idabel and Gary will also be presented.

Burial will follow at the Harrison Cemetery, rural Wapello. Pallbearers will be Jason Calhoun, Lance Walker, Lane Walker, Randy Hoeg, Verlyn Wheeler and Michael McAfee.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the C.Melvin Walker Trust Fund.
