Melissa "Missy" Dawn Porter, 22, of Iowa City, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 in Iowa City.

Born Feb. 4, 1980, in MCCook, Neb., she was the daughter of Tom and Annette Lyons Porter.

While growing up, she attended Failth Christian Outreach Church where she participated in youth group and a mission trip to Columbia, South America. She graduated from the Mount Pleasant Christian School where she participated in choir, band, and drama. She had attended Capri College of Cosmetology in Davenport and enjoyed working with cosmetics. She also collected tiger memorabilia. Ms. Porter worked at Wendy's in Iowa City.

Survivors include her parents of Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Jocelyn Wohlleber and Bekah and Kate Porter, all of Mount Pleasant; one brother, John Porter, also of Mount Pleasant; her maternal grandparents, Doyle and Helen Lyons of Danville; her paternal grandparents, Bill and Sally Porter of Danville; her great-grandmother, Ruth Porter of Danville; a nephew and niece.

Visitation will begin after noon today at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Ms. Porter will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant with Pastors Mike Johnson and Brad Gillis officiating. Burial wil be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memoral had been established in her memory and also to the Mount Pleasant Christian School.
