David J. Frese, USN Ret., of San Jose, CA, passed away May 18, 1993 of a heart attack while returning from a business trip.

David, born September 22, 1939, was the son of the deceased W.A. Frese and Alma McChesney Erwin. He moved to Wapello, IA in 1941, attended schools there, graduating from Wapello High School in 1957. He also attended Iowa State University before intering the US Navy in 1959. He served in the Navy twenty-two years, retiring in 1980; he entered the Navy as an enlisted person and retired as an LDO LT. While in the Navy, he served on the submarines USS Charr and USS Fulton, submarine repair ship and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he received numerous awards and accommodations. While serving in the Navy, he graduated from the University of Southern Maine.

Upon leaving the Navy, he worked at WANG LABS, lowell, MA for ten years and was working for UNISYSCORP, San Jose, CA, as Director of Design Verification at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Ann of San Jose, CA; daughter Mrs. Craig (Lesley A.) Lake of Rochester, NH; grandson David C. Lake also of Rochester, NH; brother Joiner C. Yakle, Wapello, IA; sister Joyce A. Paulson, of Centerburg, OH; aunt May E. Baker, Wapello, IA; eleven nieces and three nephews.

A memorial service was held May 22, 1993 at Oak Hill Chapel, San Jose, CA. Another memorial service will be held at a later date in Kittery, ME where he lived for twenty years before moving to CA three years ago.
