C. A. "Sandy" Rose, who served as Wataga's mayor and police chief, has died.

Mr. Rose, 84, of 227 S. Carr St., died at 10:24 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, in St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Ill.

He was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Morning Sun, Iowa, the son of William Robert and Annie Laurie Johnson Rose. He married Violet M. Moore on June 9, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Eldon Rose, Athens, and Warren Rose, Elizabeth, Colo.; three daughters, Roxie DeShane, Orion, Vicki Reimolds, Wataga, and Sandra McClanahan, Biggsville; one sister, Violet Miller, Oneida; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Roberta Rose, and by two brothers and one grandson.

He worked for Illinois Power Co. in Galesburg for 33 years, retiring in 1975 after 27 years of perfect attendance. He was Mayor of Wataga 24 years, from 1957 to 1981. After that, he served as Police Chief. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local, Galesburg.

In September 1995, the Village of Wataga dedicated a monument to Mr. Rose marking his years of service to the community, named a street after him in 1997. He was named "Man of the Year" by the Wataga Lions Club.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at the Hinchcliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, Galesburg, the Rev. Terry Hallock officiating. Burial was in the Wataga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the american Heart Association.d
