D.H. Westbrook Passes Away at Letts Home

WAS 74 YEARS OF AGE

Deceased Was Ill But a Few Days - Bronchial Pneumonia, Developing From a Cold. Was the Cause of His Death - Came to Iowa in 1863. Celebrated 49th Wedding Anniversary Last Month

D.H. Westbrook, one of the most prominent residents of Louisa county and a wealthy land owner, passed away at his home near Letts at 10 o'clock last Thursday morning after an illness lasting but two days. Mr. Westbrook had been ailing for some time but his condition was not regarded as serious until two days before he died, when a cold from which he had been suffering developed into bronchial pneumonia.

His condition grew rapidly worse and death ensued as stated.

Mr. Westbrook was 74 years of age on January 8. He was born in Chemung county, N.Y. and came to Iowa in 1863. He is survived by his wife and by four sons and four daughters. The surviving children are Mrs. Lemuel Dickerson, Mrs. F. G. Fry and Mrs. R.W. Furnas, and Miss Bessie, who resides at home, and Phillip, James, Fred and Harrison Westbrook, all of whom live at Letts.

Four brothers and three sisters also survive him. They are Mrs. John Wilson of Blue Earth, Minn.; Mrs. S.K. Diller of Redmond, Wash.; Mrs. Robinson Dowson, of near Columbus Junction, and J.B. Westbrook and A.J. Westbrook of Oklahoma City; Ed Westbrook of Seattle, Wash., and Hector Westbrook of Letts.

On January 9, 1866 Mr. Westbrook was married to Miss Malinda Wagner, who was a daughter of the late Phillip Wagner, for many years a prominent resident of Louisa county. Mr. and Mrs. Westbrook celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on the 9th day of last month.
