Former Mayor, Supervisor Corey Dies Tuesday

Dean O. Corey, age 69, Morning Sun, died Tuesday, April 16, 1991 at the Burlington Medical Center. The son of John Leroy and Maxie (Martin) Corey, he was born August 6, 1921 in Louisa County, Iowa. On February 1, 1942 he married Eva Mae Butcher at Morning Sun; she died September 30, 1985.

He was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School and attended Burlington Jr. College, UCLA and Stanford University. He served in the Army during WWII, spending a year in India. He taught electronics in Des Moines in earlier years.

He and his wife founded and were administrators of the Morning Sun Manor, retiring in 1981. He was a State Representative in 1969 and 1970 and was also a former Mayor of Morning Sun and a former Louisa County Supervisor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun and a member of the Morning Sun Lions Club and American Legion.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Corey, Omaha, Nebraska, and Bruce Corey, Morning Sun; two granddaughters; one brother, Virgil Corey, Morning Sun; two sisters, Eleanor Jones, Wapello, and Eloise Phillips, Centerville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Cecil Elmer Corey.

The family met with friends Wednesday evening at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Morning Sun.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 18, 1991 at 2:00 p.m. from the United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Tom Zeleny and Nancy Kaye Skinner officiating. Music will be by Pam Butler, organist. Casket bearers are Kester Gladfelder, John . . . (end of clipping - incomplete)
