BERNICE HERRICK

Wapello – Bernice Jamison Herrick, 91, died Wednesday at the Golden West Nursing Home at Fort Collins, Colo.

Services are Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Zeleny will officiate. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The former Bernice Jamison was born Nov. 15, 1897 at the Lone Hill Farm at Wapello, a daughter of Edwin and Bele Vandervort Jamison. She married C. Mike Herrick on Dec. 25, 1917 in Wapello. He died Aug. 10, 1984.

She was a 1917 graduate of Wapello High School and had received teachers training. She taught in the Victory and Orchard Grove schools in Louisa County. She was a life member of DAR and a member of the United Methodist churches in Wapello, Ames, Phoenix and El Cajon, Calif. In the 1930s she was appointed Wapello postmistress by the late President Theodore Roosevelt.

Survivors include three sons, David of Fort Collins; Dean of San Diego; and Jamison of Holtville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Harper and Helen Ogle, both of Sioux Falls, S.D.

In addition to her husband, she is also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
