Joseph Ballas Brown, a veteran of the Civil War and a well known resident is dead, aged 65 years and five months. His death occurred at 6 o'clock this morning, the immediate cause being paralysis. He suffered a paralytic stroke about a week ago, and from that time on gradually drew nearer the grave. His health, howerer, had been poor for some time.

Mr. Brown was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, Feb. 5, 1845. On august 18, 1862, he enlisted in Company B. Fifty second Ohio regiment, at Rush Run, and served three years. He was seriously wounded at Dalton, Ga., in May, 1865. He was married to Miss Ellen Miller while home on a furlough, in 1864.

For the past six years Mr. Brown had resided in Wapello and has many friends and relatives in Louisa County. He is sirvived by his invalid wife, six sons and two daughters. The latter are: Joseph Brown, of Oakville; Charles W. Brown, of Wapello; Frank S. Brown, of Lone Tree; Lovell Brown, of Wapello; Lewis Brown, of Letts, and Carl Brown, of Muscaine, and Mrs. Flora Fuller, of Eliza, Ill., and Mrs. Oren Lee, of Wapello.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. E. Newson, pastor of the M. E. Church. The services will be in charge of the local post of the G.A.R. Interment will be made in the Wapello Cemetery.
