JOHN COURTNEY
Wapello – John R. Courtney, 80, Burlington, formerly of Wapello, died Sunday at St. Francis Care Center, Burlington.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Wapello Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Wapello, or the St. Francis Care Center.

Mr. Courtney was born Dec. 26, 1904 in Louisa County, a son of John Thomas and Clara Winder Courtney. He married Mabel Wilton on May 30, 1952 in Council Bluffs. She died May 13, 1982. He was a past member of Knight of Pythias and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He farmed until 1942 and then for 30 years was with Riley Bros. Oil, Burlington.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Mary Jo) Patterson, Bettendorf; and Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Barnes, Letts; five sisters, Mabel Courtney, Katheryn Courtney, Helen Courtney and Ione Williams, all of Burlington; and Doris Dietrich, Muscatine; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Five nieces and five nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
