LOVELL H. GAST

Lovell H. Gast, age 86, of Grandview, Iowa, died Thursday afternoon, April 21, 1994 at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center. The daughter of Grafton and Pheba Etta Yearian Shedenhelm, she was born August 23, 1907 at Marengo, Iowa.

She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and then taught in several rural schools near Marengo, Shellsburg, and Vining, Iowa before coming to Grandview where she taught kindergarten before she met and married Daniel Frederick Gast on May 14, 1938 at Muscatine, Iowa. She later spent many years teaching piano. She was active in the Grandview assembly of gospel fellowship throughout her life.

Survivors include her husband, Dan; one daughter, Claudia Mae Gast of Davenport; two sons, Jerry Leon Gast of Wapello and Garth Frederick Gast of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Clayton Lee, Daniel James, and Timothy Joseph Gast, Lynette Marie Hoopes, Jennifer Lyn Spurrell, Trista Kay Noah, and Rebecca Josephine Gast; and two brothers, Russell and Ray Shedenhelm both of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Martha and Lois; and one brother, Jake.
The funeral service for Lovell Gast was held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 24, 1994 at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, with Mr. Robert Orr officiating. Kathleen Hagele provided the organ music with a special hymn “At the Cross”. The casket bearers were Clayton Gast, David Spurrell, Don Noah Jr., Ron King, Jack Zetler, and Jerry Cocklin. Burial followed at the Grandview Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Linn Manor Care Center of Marion, Iowa.

The family met with friends Saturday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
