HOLSTEEN, SUESENS, WALKER, GRAFTON, BREDES, PETERSON, BUSSE

John Franklin Holsteen, 81, of 730 Prairie St., Mediapolis, died at 9:35 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 1991, at the Bethesda Care Center, Mediapolis.

Born sept. 18, 1909, in Benton Township, Des Moines County, he was the son of Clyde B. and Emma Suesens Holsteen. He married Gwendolyn Walker Oct. 7, 1931, in Kingston.

He had been a farmer in Kingston, Mediapolis and in Illinois. He was a county chairman of National Farmer Organization for five years.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Martha Grafton, Oquawka, Ill.: two sons, John F. Holsteen Jr., Boca Raton, Fla., and Keith E. Holsteen, Morning Sun; one brother, Warren Holsteen, Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Bredes, Mediapolis, and Mrs. Marcella Peterson and Mrs. Sylvia Busse, both of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family met friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Lunning chapel.

The service for Mr. Holsteen was 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Lunning chapel with the Rev. W.O. Talley officiating. The body was cremated following the service.

Memorials have been established for the Mediapolis Ambulance Service and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
