Hugh Herman Myers, age 83, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died Monday morning, October 18, 1999, at the Integrated Health Services of Mediapolis.

The son of William and Florence Pearl Hutchcraft Myers, he was born April 19, 1916 at Sperry, Iowa. He married Edna Lane on July 11, 1936 at Herman, Missouri. She died August 15, 1980. He later married 'Davis' Kelly on December 11, 1982 at Mediapolis.

Hugh was a graduate of Sperry High School in 1935. He was a lifetime farmer in the Sperry and Mediapolis area. He was a member of the Sperry United Methodist Church and served on the church board, had been a school board member of the Sperry Consolidated Schools, and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, and the Elks, all of Burlington. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed dancing and reading, and greatly loved farming.

Survivors include his wife, Edith; two sons, William and Joleen Myers of Sperry and Henry and Dorothy Myers of Mediapolis; two daughters, Patty and William Milton of Marion, Illinois and Corinne Myers of Burlington; a step-son, Edward and Gayla Kelly of Eldridge, Iowa; two step-daughters, Marge and Tom Henderson of Wendell, North Carolina and Barb and Steve Mark of Mediapolis; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Anderson of Mediapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Edna; and three brothers, Glenn, Ralph, and Hilary.

The funeral ceremony for Hugh Myers was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 1999, at the United Methodist Church at Sperry, with Rev. John Gaulke officiating. The casket bearers included Andy Brader, Larry Anderson, Ron Fromm, Steve Mellinger, Larry Reif, and Craig Schmidt. The Honorary bearers were Floyd Buxton, Robert Myers, Donald Davis, Everett Clover, and Floyd Vance. Music was provided by Junellen Chiprez as the organist and special music by the St. Mary's Dodgeville Guitar Group. Burial followed at the Kossuth Cemetery at Mediapolis.

Visitation was Tuesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Mediapolis where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church at Sperry and the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
