Jeneva L. Johnson, 83, of Mount Union, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born Sept. 13, 1916, in Mt. Union, she was the daughter of William and Leona Hartley Flayharty. On August 21, 1937, she married Virgil Johnson in Kahoka, Mo.

Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Mount Union High School. She worked various jobs over the years including: a cook at the Mount Union School, Cargil Seed Co., Mt. Union Telephone Company, IAAP and the Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institute.

She was a former member of the Mt. Union OES Chapter and the Mount Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Linda Russell of Mount Union; three sons, Richard "Butch" Johnson of Mount Union, Ronald Johnson of La Harpe, Ill., and Danny Johnson of Mount Union; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Johnson will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Mount Union, with the Revs. Bob Hary and Pat Halverson officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery in Mount Union.

A memorial has been established.
