Kelly Eugene Tomson, age 73, of Sperry, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City.

The son of Perry and Jennie Belle (Collins) Tomson, he was born Feb. 23, 1925 at Varina, Iowa.

On Dec. 14, 1945 he married Martha Marie Kelley at Rock Island, Illinois.

He attended the Wapello and Morning Sun schools, and served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. of 1944 through Feb. of 1950. He was a member of the Sperry I.O.O.F. Lodge and the Iowa Harness Racing Association. He worked at various jobs over the years but his main interest and hobby was horses.

Survivors include his wife Martha of Sperry; four sons, Kenneth of Junction City, Kansas, Douglas and James, both of Hillsboro, Iowa, and William of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Charlotte Peck of Fairfield, Iowa, and Betty Oosthoek of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Wapello and John of Spokane, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec 1, 1998 at the Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun.

Visitation was Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun where the family met with firends in the evening.
