John Tillman, eldest son of E.R. Tillman and wife, died last Friday, Jan. 24, 1908, at the age of 22 years, 4 months and 6 days. He was born in Wapello Aug. 18, 1885 and had spent practically all his life in this vicinity, excepting a few months in Muscatine while learning the bakery business. He only worked at this a short time, however, and returned to the old home where he continued to reside with his parents, and at intervals worked in L. I. Cilley's restaurant. He was quite a musician and with his younger brother, Harry, was in growing demand for public occasions where good music was a feature. The "Tillman Orchestra" was popular amoung the music and pleasure-loving people, and he and his brother were in frequent demand. He was a reputable young man, of pleasing personality and was popular among his associates and friends. He was taken sick with cerebro-spinal meningitis a week or ten days previous to his death, which came as a great shock to the community and a great grief to his stricken parents, who mourn his sudden and sorrowful taking off.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon with short services at the grave, conducted by his venerable grandfather, Dr. R. J. Tillman. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
