Muscatine Journal Friday 5 May 1899

Died, at her home at 1001 Star Street, this city, May 3, at noon, Mrs. Nancy J. Chapman, wife of C.W. Chapman, aged 59 years and 11 months.

Mrs. Chapman was born in Ross county, Ohio. Early in life she was called to mourn the loss of a kind father. In the autumn of 1854, with her widowed mother, one sister, and two brothers, she came to Iowa, settling in Louisa county, near Grandview. She has ever since been a resident of Iowa, in Louisa and this county. For the past six years she has lived in Muscatine.

She was united in marriage on December 30, 1858, with her now sorrowing husband. Two sons and one daughter also remain to mourn her loss.

Her sickness was of a complicated nature originating in enlargement of the spleen. Her suffering was long and trying. She has borne up under her trials with true Christian fortitude and patience.

In her last farewell to her sorrowing family, she exhibited the triumphs of the Christian faith, leaving a testimony that their loss was her gain.

The interment took place today in the Grandview cemetery at 11 a.m.
