Conrad Dietrich was born August 14, 1825, at Hesse Castle, Germany, and entered into rest at Grandview, Ia., March 28, 1912, aged 87 years, 7 months and 14 days.

He came from Germany when 18 years of age and settled in Muscatine. When 25, he went to California, where he lived two years, then returned to Muscatine and moved to a farm near Wilton in 1859. On August 12, 1853, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Catherine Mark, and to this union eleven children were born. Two of these, Anna and William, preceded him in death, as did two of his brothers, Martin and John Dietrich, of Muscatine, his parents, a brother, George, and sister, Alice, in Germany. His aged wife survives him, together with his children, who are: Mrs. Louisa Fotsch, of Muscatine; Louis B. Dietrich, of Tacoma, Wash.; Ed C. Dietrich, of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Mary Young, Mrs. Ella C. Walter, Mrs. Lydia Zimmerman, Elizabeth E., Charles E., and Henry Dietrich, of Grandview. There are also fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In 1865 he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Wilton. In 1892 he moved with his family to a farm south of Grandview and remained there until 1909, when he came to Grandview. Although very feeble because of his extreme age, he was anxious a short time before his death that his days were numbered and looked forward to the end with utmost faith in his Redeemer.
