Gertrude A. Anderson, 85, of Iowa City, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at the Kahl Home in Davenport. A funeral service was held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree with Carol Kaalberg, Parish Life Coordinator, presiding. Burial was in the Lone Tree Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the West Liberty Library for children’s literature in memory of Gerti. Gertrude Alice Nortman was born on May 9, 1921, in West Liberty, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard H. and Louise R. (Meyers) Nortman. On January 21, 1943, she was united in marriage to Glenn E. Anderson in West Liberty. Gerti was employed in housekeeping at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for many years. A long time resident of West Liberty, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of West Liberty and belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. After moving to Iowa City she became a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Gerti loved reading, her grandchildren, baking, and collecting cookbooks.

Gerti is survived by her husband, Glenn of Iowa City; one son, Glen E. Anderson and his wife, Susan of Bettendorf, IA; four daughters, Mary “Mandi” Anderson of Ames, Iowa, Carole Swift and her husband, Richard of Bettendorf, IA, Patricia Hartley and her husband, Richard of Carroll, IA, and Tess Magill and her husband, Kent of Kansas City, MO; sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Siders and her husband Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, IA. and many nieces and nephews.

Gerti was preceded in death by one daughter, Cate Spears; one brother, Charles Nortman; four sisters, Mary Boyd, Regina Ellsworth, Louise Jehle and Loretta Brown.
