Frances Ellen Hudson Burns, 91, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Monday, February 11, 2008, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

Graveside services will be Friday, February 15, 2008, at 11:30 am at Columbus City Cemetery. Rev. Catherine Whitlatch will officiate. Casketbearers will be Phillip Dann, Steve Dann and Roger Dann. Visitation for Frances will be held on Friday, February 15th from 10:30-11:30 am at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Amenity Hospice, 211 First Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 in Frances’ name. Online condolences may be left to the Burns family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Frances Ellen Meredith was born January 23, 1917, in Conesville, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Oren and Callie Henriette (McKee) Meredith. In 1940 Frances married Merle Hudson. They later divorced. On December 17, 1988, Frances was united in marriage to George W. Burns in Des Moines, Iowa. Frances had worked at Owens Brush for many years in the packing department and then 10 years at the Columbus Gazette as a line-o-typer. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction and a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

Frances is survived by her son-in-law, Steve Dann of Des Moines and step-daughter, Elaine Hostetler of Chandler, Arizona; four grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Burns; a great-grandchild; and her brother, Walter Meredith.
