John Weaver, one of the best known residents of Letts, Iowa, and for more than two score years a prominent farmer of Muscatine county, passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Letts. His death was due to organic heart disease and followed an illness extending over a period of several months. His condition was not considered serious of late, however, and his sudden demise was very unexpected. The announcement of his death was received as a shock by those with whom he had been closely associated in late years.

Mr. Weaver was born in Hampton county, Pa., February 18, 1828, and came to Muscatine county more than fifty years ago. He settled on a farm near Letts and remained there until nine years ago, when he removed to the town. Mr. Weaver was a survivor of the Civil war, having served four years during the struggle for secession.

Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife, one son, Dr. A.J. Weaver, a prominent physician of Muscatine, and four daughters, of Muscatine, and four daughters, Martha Stretch, of Oregon; Mrs. Homer Vincent, of Letts; Mrs. John Sipe of Chicago and Mrs. Fannie Messick of Kansas
