Reuben F. Cocklin was born in Perry county, Pa., March 30, 1822, and departed this life at his home in Grandview, Ia., Saturday, February 26, 1910, aged 87 years, 10 months and 27 days. On December 2, 1847, he was united in marriage to Margaret Beck, at Clintonville, Venenigo county, Pa. In 1854 he removed to Iowa, locating at Burlington, where he resided until the year of 1859, when he removed to Grandview, Ia., residing here continuously until his death.

Mr. Cocklin enlisted in the 19th Iowa infantry in 1862, being a member of Company G in that regiment, serving three years to the close of the war. He was a brave and faithful soldier and took a part in every engagement of his company and regiment. He was taken presoner of war with his company at the fight of Sterling farm, near Morganza, La., in 1863, and there remained in the rebel prison for 10 months, until discharged.

Mr. Cocklin is survived by five children. They are: Leutica Christie, Clark Cocklin, Mary Bell Rexroth and Clington Cocklin, all of Grandview, Ia., and George W. Cocklin, of Muscatine, Ia. Aside from his children he is survived by his wife, one brother, Lewis Cocklin, of Griswold, Ia., and 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was always a loving and devoted father, striving to make pleasant his home. His long residence in the community had given him a very wide circle of friends, every one of whom knew him as a generous neighbor and faithful friend, ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. So while we have sorrow, yet it is not as those who have no hope, for it is written, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."

Mrs. C.W. Graham was a Muscatine visitor Thursday, returning home on the evening train.

The funeral services were conducted at the home by M.G. Hamill, Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Interment was made in the Grandview cemetery.
