COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Dale Bowen,76, Columbus Junction, died April 17, 2002, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Graveside services for family members will be held at the Columbus City Cemetery.

Mr. Bowen was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Bladensburg, the son of Orville and Daisy Bowen.

He was an honor graduate from Farson High School in 1944. Shortly after graduation he joined the Merchant Marines and served on the USS Cape Perpetua in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an agent for the Milwaukee Railroad for 17 years and worked at railroad stations in Missouri and Iowa, including Agency, Conesville, Sigourney and Washington.

He was a Mason and member of the Kaaba Shrine. He served for many years as a volunteer fireman in Columbus Junction. A talented electrician and mechanic, he often helped neighbors and friends with "fix-it" projects, requesting only a smile for payment.

Shortly after retiring from the Columbus Junction Farm Service in 1988 he resided with his son, Len, in Pelham, Ala., until recently entering the Colonal Manor Nursing Home.

Survivors include three children, Len Bowen, of Pelham, Leland Bowen and wife Jill of Iowa City and Lowell Bowen and wife Lena of Illinois City, Ill.; two sisters, Willa Rysdam of Ottumwa and Zelpha Belle Leverone of Miami, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Briana and Benjamen Bowen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons, Loren and Lyle Dean; and a sister, Phyllis.
