Odessa Ruth Darby (known as Ruth), age 93, died Tuesday, January 14, 1997 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Columbus Junction, IA, having been in failing health for the past 2 ½ years.

The funeral for Ruth Darby was at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, 1997 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, IA with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating, the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Ruth was born September 11, 1903 in Cora, MO to Harmon G. and Iva Myers Crow. She was educated in Cora, MO and later Wapello, IA where she graduated from high school. She also graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, IA and taught school in Toolesboro, IA and in Nebraska.

She married V. Clair Darby on Dec. 18,1925 in Iowa City and lived most of her life in Ainsworth, IA. She was a member of the Sorosis Club in Ainsworth, and the Retired Teachers Association.

Ruth is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Coleman, Washington, IA and Mrs. Bertha Brewer, Fairfield, CA, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1971, 2 brothers, and an infant son.
