Herbert W. "Doc" Blanchard, 73, of Wever, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born March 26, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Ralph S. and Edna M.E. Lange Blanchard. On Aug. 23, 1959, he married Lois Luedeman in Denmark.

Mr. Blanchard was a farmer and a welder at several businesses including Murray Iron Works in Burlington.

He was a member of Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a 50-year member of the I.O.O.F. 552 of Wever. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957.

He loved the Cubs and was a former president of the Fort Madison High School Booster Club. He enjoyed travel with his wife.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Williams R. Blanchard of Wever and Jeffery Blanchard of Burlington; three grandchildren; one brother, Donald "Squirt" Blanchard of West Point; two sisters, Nettie Jean Sorensen of Wapello and Roberta Stout of Langston, Ala.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.

Visitation was Wednesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Madison where the family met with friends in the evening. An I.O.O.F. service was held at 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Blanchard will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Barbara Koenig officiating.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Claypoole Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard.

A memorial has been established for the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ.
