Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today, funeral home.

LETTS, Iowa - Betty Lou Barnes, 1934-2005, 71, Letts, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center, Wapello.

The Rev. Kimberly Bowles will officiate the services. Burial will be at the Letts Cemetery.

Mrs. Barnes was born June 12, 1934, in Louisa County, the daughter of Earl C. and Alice J. Walberg Bennett. She married Wayne A. Barnes Dec. 19, 1954, in Columbus Junction.

She attended Teacher's College and graduated from A.I.B. in Davenport.

Along with her husband, she helped with the family farm. She also worked at Weber and Huston in Letts and was a secretary for several years for Columbus Community Schools.

She was a member of Letts United Methodist Church and a past member of T.T.T. She enjoyed working in the yard, gardening and collecting shells and rocks, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

Survivors include her husband; her daughters, Lori Vertz of Portage, Wis. and Mona Barnes of Denver, Colo,; two grandsons, Kyle Vertz and Nicholas Vertz; and two sisters, Rose Mary Hayes of Iowa City and Sally Ann Carpenter and husband Ronald of Columbus Junction.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
