Richard D. Beik, age 85, died at his home in St. George, Utah on March 24, 2005. He was born on August 13, 1919 in Louisa County to Dan and Calla Walker Beik. He grew up on a farm in the Grandview area and graduated from Grandview High School in 1936. He enlisted in the US Navy at 21 years of age in 1940. He served on the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and the USS William B. Preston during WWII. After serving 6 years he returned home and married Betty J. Colson in 1948 at Eliza, Illinois. He then owned and operated a gravel truck and was a rural U.S. Mail Carrier out of Wapello, Iowa for 24 years. His retirement years were spent in Arizona and the last 14 years in St. George, Utah.

Richard is the father of Linda S. Rosen of Lakeland, Florida and Danny J. Beik (Phyllis) of Morning Sun, Iowa. He is also survived by his sister, Nola Pine of Columbus City and Winfield, Iowa; a grandson, two great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parens; two brothers, Keith and George Beik; and a sister, Nadine Goodlander.

The interment of the cremains will be at a graveside service on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at 10:00 AM at the Grandview Cemetery at Grandview, Iowa with the Rev. James Huston officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Wapello VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166.

The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home has assisted with the local arrangements for Richard Beik.
