Bean, 55, dies Thursday

Bernard D. Bean, 55, 1810 Schiller Street, Muscatine, died Thursday, October 26, 1989, at Muscatine General Hospital.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Musserville Methodist church, Muscatine. Captain Paul Thompson of the Salvation Army and Rev. Manzel Berlin of Musserville Methodist Church officiated.

Leola Askam was organist. Casket bearers were Donald Watson, David Schmelzer, Herman Radke, Harold Freese, Edward Estabrook, and Richard Silva. Burial was at the Grandview Cemetery.

Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bean was born January 31, 1934, at Aisworth, a son of Norman F. and Frances Eden Bean. He had lived in Muscatine most of his life. He was united in marriage to Peggy A. Law on November 29, 1959, at Aledo, Illinois.

He was a member of the Musserville Methodist Church and its Mens's Club and was a member of the Men's Fellowship of the Salvation Army.

He was a retired member of the Distillery Workers Union.

Prior to his retirement in April, he had been employed at Grain Processing Corporation for 25 years.

He enjoyed the outdoors with his family, gardening and camping with the "N.Y.E.P."

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; two sons, Harry L. "Mike' and Bradley W., both of Muscatine; and two grandchildren.

Other survivors include brothers Stanley, Columbus Junction; Wallace and Danny, Muscatine; Jerry and Larry, Ainsworth; and sisters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Keisy, Mount Pleasant; Mrs. Ralph (Geneva) Gerling, Grandview; and Mrs. Frank (Beverly) Pershy, Muscatine.

His parents, one son, one sister, and one brother preceded him in death.
